My family visited me this week and this short holiday allowed me to slow down a little. Strolling lazily through the streets of Chelsea and then later passing through Oxford Street I noticed more flowers than usual – floral pants and shorts seem to have really hit the streets this time rather than remaining one of those trends that we sometimes see in the magazines but never actually people wearing it
But florals can be a surprisingly tricky pattern to wear on pants and the like: get it wrong and you will look like you walked out in a pyjama…
So how to wear them? There are some easy rules that will make them look super chic and definitely not boring!
Probably the hardest is to wear floral shorts or pants in a smart way. For me the key is to match the colour of the top exactly with one of the colours on the pattern and keep both fabrics sophisticated: pure cottons, cashmeres, silk, light wools, linens.
For the best summer holiday look, match your florals with an oversized (but not too heavy) jumper and some bangles. Keep them both plain - you want the florals to be center of attention An advantage: this combination is super comfy!
My favourite combination, however, is a plain white shirt and wide leg floral pants. It is so effortlessly chic, so sophisticated and so easy at the same time.
How are you going to wear yours?
